Congratulations Professor Kao: 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics

Just in case you missed the announcement overnight, Professor Charles Kao was yesterday awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics for “… groundbreaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibers for optical communication.”

Professor Kao was the pioneer in the development of the low-loss optical fibres and, therefore, the ‘Godfather’ of what we do here in much of Finisar.

This is a tremendous recognition for the pioneering work Charles did and also a recognition of the importance of optical fibres in today’s high-speed communications systems.
