Finisar is recognized as the worldwide leader in Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) manufacturing and technology and continues to lead the commercial application of VCSELs with a broad product offering of components for the data communications industry. Finisar manufactures a wide variety of VCSELs intended for sensor applications. A majority of the VCSELs are 850nm, however several CWDM wavelengths are readily available as well including 780, 800, 825, 910 and 980nm. Matching detector components are also available. Additional wavelengths in the range of 780-1000nm may be available by request. Finisar has single mode VCSELs available at 795, 850 and 895nm.

Finisar offers custom packaging options for various sensor products which include SMT type packages as well as mounting the die directly on printed circuit boards. All Finisar VCSELs are manufactured with a passivation coating ensuring reliability in non-hermetic environments.

These VCSELs can be used in many types of optical sensors based on reflection, transmission, absorption, scattering, interference, self-mixing or other techniques. Many of these VCSELs are currently used in applications such as high-end encoders and atomic clocks.
