Finisar's RF-over-Fiber solutions provide high-performance fiber optic links that natively transport radio frequency (RF) signals over a wide range of bands including 1 kHz, L-band, S-band, C-band, Ku-band, and Ka-band. These analog microwave signals can be carried over long distances due to fiber's low insertion loss (link distances range from a few hundred meters to fifty kilometers). Compared to coaxial cable, fiber is also light weight and immune to electromagnetic interference from external RF sources. Our complete product line of optical transmitters and receivers are available in compact modules, outdoor and wall mount units, as well as modular rack-mount systems.

Through years of innovation, Finisar has increased the frequency range of RF-over-Fiber solutions up to 50 GHz while maintaining low noise figures, high spurious-free dynamic range and flat amplitude responses. This expands the number of applications for fiber optics which include signal transport from remote satellite antennas, military and commercial communication links on ships and airplanes, distribution of timing signals, surveillance analysis systems, delay lines, and secure links between buildings. In the optical domain, RF signals can be transported and processed in new unique ways such as carrying many signals on different wavelengths over the same optical fiber, optically combining RF signals, and dynamically routing signals through wavelength switching. Finisar's solutions can be customized to address very specific needs utilizing wavelength division multiplexing, optical amplifiers, optical switches, optical delay lines and fiber dispersion compensation.
