Enabling Rapid Expansion of Mobile Broadband with Broad Product Portfolio
Smartphone adoption around the world is driving explosive growth in demand for mobile bandwidth. Wireless operators have been desperately trying to keep pace with this demand, upgrading their networks to 3G, 4G/LTE, and soon, 5G. These upgrades require not only significantly new radio and RF technologies, but also a shift of the underlying network infrastructure from a copper based architecture to one that relies on optical transmission. Wireless networks are increasingly deployed with antennas that are remote from the base station, driving a large new market for optical transceivers in what is often referred as the front-haul portion of a wireless network. In addition, the higher bandwidth required for wireless backhaul means that fiber optics are increasingly used for this portion of the wireless network as well.
Finisar has a comprehensive portfolio of optical transceivers for wireless infrastructure applications. We offer a full product portfolio of CPRI (Common Public Radio Interface) modules that are rated for outside plant applications (i.e. Industrial Temperature; -40 to 85°C) for connections from base stations to antennas. These modules span data rates from 2.5 Gb/s to 10 Gb/s, and reaches from 300m on multimode fiber (MMF) to 40km on singlemode fiber (SMF), including WDM and Bidirectional (BiDi) modules. In addition, Finisar offers a broad range of modules suited for wireless backhaul applications, spanning Fast Ethernet, SONET/SDH OC-3/STM-1 to OC-48/STM-16, Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
